We believe every learner deserves the chance to explore, try, and grow. We prepare students not only to learn, but to live with purpose and independence.

Employment Gap in Tennessee

School-to-work transition program
  • Tennessee ranks 44th in the nation for employment rates among individuals with disabilities, one of the largest employment gaps in the U.S.

  • Many students with disabilities graduate high school unprepared for employment and adult life.

  • Gaps in job readiness and life skills are often linked to inconsistent transition planning, limited job experience, and lack of targeted vocational support.

  • There is a critical need for specialized vocational and transition services for individuals with disabilities across Tennessee.

  • Employment supports financial independence, purpose, and quality of life—and also promotes inclusion and opportunity for our entire community.

At BrightSteps, we prioritize the transition process, helping students become more prepared to exit school and enter the next phase in life - employment! Our program was created to shrink the employment gap for individuals with disabilities - providing practical, supportive, and empowering instruction to prepare young adults with disabilities to step confidently into the workforce and build fulfilling, independent lives.
